An AIESEC Breakdown: Roll Calls

Now roll calls may be one of the weirdest and coolest things AIESEC members do. To give it a definition, roll calls are dances that we all do at random times: before a session at a conference, after a meeting, and during a brainstorming session. They are energizers and completely fun when you have been planning for the last hour. But the coolest thing about roll calls is how they bring us all together. Sure, they are just dances but when there might be a language barrier, it is cool to see that we can all know and do the same dance. That so many people just like us around the world are doing the same dance and we are doing it together.

There are so many different roll calls too! We have different themes and upbeat songs- some have cool cultural ties too. At the start of conferences, every local committee presents their unique roll call. We learn roll calls from different countries and we teach them ours. These dances spread like fire and everyone is always eager to learn a new one.

Roll Call 3

Roll calls create a different culture: an AIESEC culture. Which may be why it can be a small culture shock when you join AIESEC. The dances are crazy and the songs you most likely haven’t heard of, but if you think about the scope of them, they are pretty cool. You will also find yourself with one of those weird songs stuck in your head or dancing slightly during the day. So at the end of the day, you may hate them or you may (hopefully) love them but they are a part of AIESEC and they show just one way we connect people from all over the world.
